You\u2019re actually doing something: polishing your car, organizing your cereal drawer, helping your brother make a collage\u2026 Except time is marching on, and your essay is unwritten, your report only contains empty tables, and a few other super important and urgent tasks haven\u2019t even been started yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>                                                                                                                                                                                   That\u2019s what procrastination is like: you\u2019re fully <em>aware<\/em> that serious tasks have to be done, but you <em>consciously<\/em> continue doing what isn\u2019t important, urgent and is simply just nice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Good news: there\u2019s no need to be ashamed and self-chastise &#8212; everyone procrastinates. Some more, some less. Also, a \u201c<strong>responsible delay<\/strong>\u201d can very well be useful and reasonable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bad news: most often, putting things off and completing them at the last moment hurt both the performer (stress, lack of sleep, feeling guilty, etc.) and the result (lower quality, interesting ideas are missed out on).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If procrastination gives you more disadvantages than benefits and substantially harms your plans, we suggest a few steps which will help minimize its negative impact on your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><em><strong>Rationale<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Do you know what your procrastination is \u201cfeeding\u201d upon? Your lack of answer to the most important question: \u201cWhy do I actually need this?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make an honest estimation for herself what completing this task will bring you:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Money<\/li><li>Fame<\/li><li>Happiness in the future<\/li><li>Love, etc.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the goal is clear, then you\u2019re working on it without distractions. If your answer is \u201cthis is no use, it\u2019ll just be a waste of time\u201d, then just refuse this task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, there are cases when a task really is useless, but you must do it. If you\u2019re seeing that putting things off is already out of your control, see a psychologist for assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"3\"><li><em><strong>Plans and priorities<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Only a lazy person hasn\u2019t written about this &#8212; but it genuinely helps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The more comprehensive your check lists, to-do lists, \u201cpost-its\u201d are, the less likely it is that you\u2019ll \u201crelapse\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Important specifics of planning:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The list of important things is compiled the evening before &#8212; that way, the next morning doesn\u2019t start with confusions and doubts;<\/li><li>The tasks are prioritized in accordance with their importance and urgency: you can find online the principles of time management which are the most convenient for you: \u201ctomatoes\u201d, \u201cfrogs\u201d, \u201c1-3-7\u201d, \u201cfour squares\u201d &#8212; choose one you like best;<\/li><li>Breaks are a must, and how you spend them must also be thought out: sport, meditation, watering the plants, walking &#8212; but not anything which can pull you in, like a drug: social media, videos, news streams, \u201conly one episode\u2026\u201d, etc.<\/li><li>The plan should always be at your fingertips or visible to you; cross out or tick completed tasks immediately;<\/li><li>A short overview and conclusions in the evening are a must: how much was done; what wasn\u2019t done; why not and how to improve the situation; new plans for tomorrow, taking into account today\u2019s results.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"4\"><li><em><strong>Interruptions<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>As usual\u2026 the World Wide Web and all of its \u201cperks\u201d: social media, messages, videos, cats, etc. are at the first place, by a wide margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You know very well that words like \u201cjust a second, I\u2019ll just read what Alena\u2019s sent\u201d and \u201cwoah, is it nine p.m. already?!\u201d have an inextricable connection. Nonetheless, you still relapse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By turning off your phone, notifications and social media for the time spent completing your task, you\u2019ll most definitely win the battle with procrastination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t forget about your surroundings. The weaker your will is, the easier it is for you to get distracted by pointless stuff. So, you need to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Tidy up your workspace (put away the calendars, the pile of some receipts, close the distracting browser windows)<\/li><li>If you\u2019re highly sensitive to noise, shut the doors and the windows, use noise-cancelling headphones, etc.<\/li><li>If you\u2019re working remotely, it\u2019s best to leave the apartment with unwashed dishes, a funny dog and noisy neighbors for a few hours (and most definitely, don\u2019t work in the kitchen).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\" start=\"5\"><li><em><strong>And the good\u2026<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Kids aren\u2019t the only ones who need candies for good behavior &#8212; grown up \u201cgirls and boys\u201d also want rewards.
