Not always does this state require help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> However, if the person is in a critical state, and instead of tears and emotions you see an empty and apathetic look \u2013 it means that the situation had such a huge effect on them that it turned on a defense mechanism \u2013 the person merely cannot realize what\u2019s happening, and, to some degree, \u201cdisconnected\u201d from reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s better to let reaction complete fully \u2013 they will need some time for the realization to happen. To do that, organise an opportunity for the person to rest: help them lie down, take off their shoes, unbutton their tight clothing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in a public place where there\u2019s no opportunity to go rest or, for the person\u2019s safety, you need to calm them down quickly, the following actions are useful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>How to help someone during apathy:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> Make contact: stroke their shoulders, tell them that the things they\u2019re feeling are okay in these circumstances, it\u2019s going to pass soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> Try to involve the person into a simple shared activity: offer taking a stroll together, walking calmly, put their hands up and down (manageable physical activity), make them a cup of warm sweet tea;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> Try to evoke their response, to do that, ask a few simple questions: <em>\u201cwhat\u2019s your name?\u201d, \u201cdoes anything hurt?\u201d, \u201cdo you want some water?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8212;<\/strong> Massaging biologically active spots is helpful (earlobes and fingers).
